Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy
Transformative Law Review recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools may be used to support certain aspects of academic writing and scholarly publishing. However, the use of GenAI must be conducted responsibly, transparently, and ethically. This policy applies to authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the submission, review, and publication process of the journal.
Use of GenAI by Authors
Authors may use GenAI tools only for limited purposes, such as improving grammar, language clarity, spelling, readability, formatting, or translation support. The use of GenAI must not replace the author’s intellectual contribution, critical analysis, interpretation, argumentation, or scholarly responsibility.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and validity of all content submitted to the journal, including any text, data, arguments, citations, or references assisted by GenAI tools.
GenAI tools must not be used to fabricate data, generate false references, manipulate citations, produce misleading arguments, or create content that violates academic integrity.
Authorship and Accountability
GenAI tools, chatbots, or similar technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship is limited to human contributors who meet the journal’s authorship criteria and who are able to take responsibility for the submitted work.
All authors must ensure that their manuscript complies with the journal’s policies on originality, plagiarism, citation ethics, research ethics, and publication malpractice.
Disclosure of GenAI Use
Authors must disclose the use of GenAI tools if such tools were used beyond basic grammar, spelling, formatting, or language editing. The disclosure should be included in the manuscript, preferably in the acknowledgment section or in a separate statement before the references.
Suggested disclosure format:
During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of GenAI tool] for [specific purpose, such as language editing, translation assistance, or improving readability]. The author(s) have reviewed, edited, and verified all outputs and take full responsibility for the content of the manuscript.
If GenAI tools were not used, authors are not required to include a disclosure statement.
Prohibited Uses of GenAI
Authors are prohibited from using GenAI tools to:
- Generate fabricated or falsified data;
- Create fake citations or non-existent references;
- Manipulate images, figures, tables, or research results in a misleading way;
- Produce substantial parts of a manuscript without human scholarly input;
- Conceal plagiarism, duplicate publication, or text recycling;
- Misrepresent authorship or intellectual contribution;
- Generate responses to reviewers that contain false or misleading claims.
Any misuse of GenAI may be treated as publication malpractice and will be handled according to the journal’s Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
Use of GenAI by Reviewers
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts assigned to them. Reviewers are not permitted to upload submitted manuscripts, unpublished data, tables, figures, supplementary files, or any confidential material into GenAI tools or external platforms that may store, process, or reuse the content.
Reviewers may use digital tools to improve the clarity or organization of their own review comments, provided that manuscript confidentiality is not compromised. Reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and integrity of their review reports.
GenAI tools must not replace the reviewer’s expert judgment.
Use of GenAI by Editors
Editors may use digital or AI-assisted tools to support administrative tasks, language checking, plagiarism screening, metadata checking, or editorial workflow. However, editorial decisions must always be made by human editors based on scholarly assessment, peer-review reports, journal policies, and ethical considerations.
Editors must not upload confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, or author correspondence to external GenAI platforms that may compromise confidentiality, data protection, or intellectual property rights.
GenAI tools must not be used as the sole basis for accepting, rejecting, or evaluating a manuscript.
Accuracy, Bias, and Verification
Authors, reviewers, and editors must recognize that GenAI tools may produce inaccurate, incomplete, biased, misleading, or fabricated information. Any content assisted by GenAI must be carefully checked, verified, and revised by humans before submission, review, or publication.
The journal reserves the right to request clarification from authors regarding the use of GenAI tools in the preparation of a manuscript.
Relationship with Publication Ethics
This policy is part of the journal’s commitment to publication ethics, research integrity, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication. Any violation of this policy may be investigated in accordance with the journal’s policies on plagiarism, research misconduct, correction, retraction, withdrawal, and publication malpractice.
Policy Updates
This policy may be reviewed and updated periodically in response to developments in scholarly publishing, research ethics, and artificial intelligence technologies.
