Copyright Ownership
Authors who publish with Pakungwati Law Review (PLR) retain copyright in their articles. Copyright is not transferred to the journal or its publisher. Authors grant PLR the right of first publication and the non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, preserve, and identify the article as part of the journal's scholarly record.
Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International
All articles published in PLR are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
What the License Allows
Subject to the license terms, readers and other users may exercise the following freedoms for any lawful purpose, including commercial purposes:
Share
Copy and redistribute the published material in any medium or format.
Adapt
Remix, transform, translate, and build upon the published material.
Conditions of Reuse
Users must give appropriate credit to the author or authors, cite the article and PLR as the original place of publication, provide a link to the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, and indicate whether changes were made. Attribution must not suggest that the author or PLR endorses the user or the reuse.
If users remix, transform, translate, or build upon the material, they must distribute their contributions under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license or a license designated as compatible with it.
No Additional Restrictions
Users may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from exercising the rights granted by the license. The license does not remove obligations arising from privacy, publicity, moral rights, data protection, confidentiality, or other applicable laws.
Authors May
- Share the submitted, accepted, or published version, subject to accurate citation and identification of the version.
- Deposit the article in institutional, subject, or personal repositories.
- Reuse the article in teaching, presentations, books, or later works.
- Authorize reuse consistent with the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
PLR May
- Publish and identify the article as an original PLR publication.
- Distribute, index, archive, preserve, and migrate the article across formats or platforms.

- Issue corrections, retractions, or other notices necessary to maintain the scholarly record.
Third-Party Material
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce material for which they do not own copyright, including images, figures, tables, lengthy quotations, maps, datasets, and archival documents. Authors must provide accurate credit lines and evidence of permission when requested.
Third-party material is covered by the article's CC BY-SA 4.0 license only when this is expressly indicated. If a credit line identifies different terms or excludes material from the Creative Commons license, users must obtain permission directly from the relevant rights holder unless another legal exception applies.
